About the Artist: Changes in his life brought him and his family to the great state of Montana in 1978, and exposed him to the rugged grandeur of the Northern Rockies. Martin became an avid outdoorsman over the next ten years, and studied the wildlife and their habitat. It was also there that he was inspired to try his hand at painting, on a dare from his wife Rose; $40 worth of basic art supplies, and a hunch of his own that he could actually do it. The Western and wildlife works of Montana's great C.M. Russell were very inspiring to him. In 1988 Martin's desire for different wildlife and scenery inspired another adventurous family move, this time north, to the Frontier of Alaska, where they now reside permanently. Being a serious outdoorsman allows Martin the chance to study the subject animals he loves up close, and portray them along with their habitat. He has experienced many of the scenes he portrays. Earlier studies in oil, pastel, pencil and watercolor taught Martin the basics, but he is self taught in acrylics. Regional and local recognition has brought Martin many awards including Peoples Choice, Best Wildlife, and Award of Merit in the north western states, including Montana, Washington and Alaska. Demands and commissions have sent Martin's work throughout the United States.
