I have lived in Fairbanks since 1999 and only now do I have enough time and opportunity for painting seriously. I have met many friends in the Fairbanks Watercolor Society and I am grateful for their encouragement and their help. I learn from art books, magazines and other artists. Now I have a wonderful opportunity in New Horizons Gallery, where I work. I can see and appreciate what other artists are doing. It helps me expand my own horizons and forces me to extend my limits. I can always find something new and I enjoy this learning process. Alaska is a land of extremes: sometimes there is too much light and sometimes not enough. Compared to my years in Europe, Alaska astonishes me with an overwhelming sense of huge space, unlimited sky, and intensity of colors. Clouds float in the sky and appear to be endless. In winter, the land seems to be in an extended state of sunrise or sunset. Autumn offers golden delights. The rich blue of the sky this time of year contrasts with the collage of yellows, oranges, crimson and greens of the taiga. My goal is to capture all this in my paintings. |
