Float

This is an alternative to the traditional matting technique of covering the paper's edge with matting.

The paper is attached to an acid free backing, and the backing is attached to the colored mat board (yellow in this example).

A foam core spacer is needed under the blue mat to raise it above the painting floating in the middle.

This is an especially effective way to show off deckled or torn edges on both originals and prints.
