About Dan: I like to paint meditations on the natural world. I usually come up with ideas after taking walks, a drive, after hunting, or other outdoor experiences. Sometimes I like to illustrate in a very tight style, soaking in what is around me. At others I like to be rather experimental, trying to come up with something unique, emotional or contemporary. My favorite subjects are birds, and animals. I rely on photos only when I have to. I prefer to get to know my subject, and draw it from life when possible. I am willing to try any commission within reason, and have produced many types of illustration handling a large variety of subject matter. I have taught art classes to individuals and groups. My art is in many private, and public collections in Alaska, and the mid-west, and has been donated to many charities. I am influenced by many artists. My favorites are Andrew Wyeth, Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargeant, Robert Bateman and the impressionists.
